The colors are certainly eye catching and the form fusion design seems a winner from whichever angle you look at it. The keypad as well as the covers of the phone are changeable. The menu can be personalized and for fast and easy access to the different functions, the Nokia 2300 has a four way scroll button. The Li-Ion battery has a very good standby of about 200 hours with a talk time of around 3 hours. The dimensions of the phone are comfortable to carry it around even the weight is just 92 gms, light enough to slip into the pocket without feeling any discomfort. The display is black and white having a size of 96 x 65 pixels. A color display would have suited the 2300 much better, however the monochrome display does make it more pocket friendly. Indeed the 2300 has been made with the student in mind especially one who is no a budget. This fact is further strengthened by the presence of a SMS counter. The phone is powered by a Li-Ion 850 mAh battery which has 4. Hours of talk time and 400 hours of standby. The menu can be controlled by 4-way scroll user interface style which is very user friendly.

Though meant for the entry level market, the phone does make itself attractive on the basis of certain high end features. The first of this type can be considered to be the FM Radio. A definite plus point for any phone, I have seen many a higher end phone suffer because of the absence of this feature. A good example would be another phone from Nokia's product range itself, i.e. 6600 which does not have a radio despite having some superb functions. Then there are the polyphonic ringtones. These are the latest craze in the market and again not many entry level phones have this function. For more ringtone options, the 2300 has a built-in composer. However the ring tones in this case are not polyphonic but plain ones. For any self-respecting teenager, the ability to send and receive SMS is crucial and he / she would feel incomplete without it. The makers at Nokia understand this fact perfectly and there are lots of SMS based functions which are further described. The 2300 can send as well as receive EMS, better known as the black and white picture messages. Group messaging allows the user to send 10 messages simultaneously to a previously created group. The phone also allows the user to store 50 messages in it. SMS chat allows two persons (having SMS chat feature) to chat like a normal conversation as on any chat client on the internet. Then of course there is the much hyped SMS junk filter, it is probably nothing else then a simple number based blocking system but that remains to be seen. The predictive text input in this case is not just for English but also for most European languages and this includes Arabic and Hebrew. The menu also gives the user a lot of options for language content which includes most European languages as well as a few others such as Arabic, Afrikaans, Hebrew, Farsi, Sesotho (Sotho), Swahili, Urdu, Xhosa, and Zulu.

There is an internal hands free (speaker phone) as well as call timer for keeping track of costs. Speed dialing is also present however only nine entries are allowed. Now this is where the party ends other then a few other plain features there is nothing more in the 2300. Not even any type of connectivity such as GPRS or WAP. This means no internet access or even data transfer of any kind. Again the lower end user (teen - student) probably does not use these functions and those who do require such functions would be put off by the style of the 2300. This means that though the 2300 scores an okayish 5.5 on a scale of 10; those who are satisfied by the functions should surely go for it, since otherwise the Nokia 2300 is a sure winner.
